Pharmacists and foundation trainee pharmacists employed at Superdrug have voted overwhelmingly to recognise the Pharmacists’ Defence Association Union to represent them.
The union yesterday said the Central Arbitration Committee confirmed 125 votes, equating to 94 per cent, were in favour following a ballot. Eight votes were against.
The PDA said more details will emerge in the next few days. The PDAU’s general secretary Mark Pitt said it hoped “to build a positive relationship” with Superdrug “that can benefit both pharmacists and the business.”
“I would like to thank all those who participated in the ballot, and especially those pharmacists that originally asked the PDA Union to explore recognition at this company,” he said.
“Their desire for an independent voice at work has now been realised through the collective action of their professional colleagues.”
Superdrug’s pharmacy director Craig Watt told Independent Community Pharmacist: “We can confirm that the Pharmacists’ Defence Association Union has been granted recognition. We respect the wishes of our pharmacy colleagues and will now work collaboratively with the PDA to define the collective bargaining agreement.
“We’re pleased that everyone in the bargaining unit had the opportunity for their voice to be heard and that this decision was ultimately made by our employees.”
